Position Overview:  
A Senior Project Controls Manager is expected to establish and manage the project controls functions, systems and procedures to assure the definition of schedules and budgets and analyze trends and forecasts for effective project management. Once assigned to a major company project all of the following project controls functions will report into the successful candidate:
 
  • Planning and scheduling, Estimating and cost accounting, Cost control, Project systems, Project administration and Document Control
Responsibilities:  
  • Establish Project Controls teams, systems and procedures for assigned major projects
  • Full responsibility and management of staff for the following areas of a major capital project:
    • Planning & Scheduling oversight for execution of project master schedules, reporting requirements, staff and client meetings and milestone tracking
    • Estimating & Budgetary Control for all stages of project from preliminary to commissioning stages. Duties include creating cost code structure, development of estimates, preparation of tendering documents, forecast & trend reports, change control management, evaluation and analysis of bids
    • Ensuring Project Systems are established through all stages of a major project; i.e. communication and computer systems
    • Manage and Maintain an optimal level of Project Administration throughout the lifecycle of the project
    • Ensure Document Control systems and procedures are in place and performing throughout the project
  • Maintain constant communication with internal and external project stakeholders on the complete health and status of the project versus forecasted results
    • Internal relationships; Corporate Head Office, Project Manager (assigned to your project) and other Managers that the Project Controls Manager will work with daily: Procurement, Engineering, Quality Assurance, etc.
    • External relationships; crucial to maintain a working relationship with the Client and Subcontractors on the project. On a scheduled basis will present project results to client organizations.
Requirements:  
  • 20+ years of progressive Project Controls experience working on major capital projects and has managed budgets of $1+ billion dollars  
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a position of managing and/or leading substantial project control teams in a corporate or project environment.
  • Superior communication and leadership skills; must be able to present to client and company executives weekly and/or monthly project status reports
  • Desired attributes but not demanded; Mining experience, PMP or Project Controls  or Professional Engineering designations
  • Post Secondary Education with applied experience in the Engineering & Construction Sector
  • Bilingual communication skills (English & French) is an asset
  • Experience working on Hydro and Heavy Civil Projects is also an asset
